We’ve had a lot going on this week so I still haven’t finished the dog bed I meant to work on this weekend, but I did get a few comments on these doggie seat belts. When I post a blog entry or upload Flickr! photos it shows up on my Facebook page and I often get comments on FB instead of on my blog or Flickr! So, if you are reading this on FB please click through and come over to my blog!
Here is how I made little dog seat belts from big dog collars! I created the tutorial in PDF format since there are so many pictures. You don’t have to re-use the d-ring if you have a leash clip or something that will fit. I re-used it since I had carabiners and I wanted to re-use as much of the collar as possible!
I hope you enjoy!

P.S. I’ve never done this before, so please let me know if you have any questions or if it’s not clear or if you have problems downloading the tutorial! Thanks!
Your tutorial looks great! I’ve been meaning to buy Lila a new seat belt harness, so I’m going to try this out.
The seat belt harness is about $30 and she is between sizes, so this should be more economical and it will fit!
Thanks! The harnesses that come with the seat belts never fit my dogs either. This way you can use any harness!
That’s stinkin brilliant. Perfect for my little dog who has a bit of trouble sitting still in the seat. Thanks!
Erin, I’m getting a puppy soon and was wondering what to do about keeping him from running around in the car ~ this is absolutely a brilliant idea! I’ll be making this soon!
Me encanta !
This is so awesome!!!!! Last week I made the doggie harness for my Daisy (yorkiepoo). Then I modified the harness pattern and made a raincoat. When I needed a seatbelt this blog was my first stop.
Thanks so much Erin for your brilliant mind and complete awesomness!!!!
A raincoat is a great idea!!
What a terrific idea! I can’t wait to make this up for my boyfriend’s dog, the Peek!
