Vacation pics and catching up!

December 26, 2012
By Erin Erickson

Hi everyone! Did anyone get any fun sewing stuff or fabric gift certificates under the tree?? :)

Yes, I’m home! I got home last week from Brisbane but some of our holiday family togetherness was at my house, so much of last week was spent cleaning and grocery shopping. I did manage to sew up the projects I’d cut out before I left!

My Australia pics are over on Flickr. The weather was beautiful. We had so much fun and just acted silly and had an amazing time. We went to the Australia Zoo, the Sunshine Coast, the mountains (OMG THE MOUNTAINS!), the Gate to the Sanctuary convention, the planetarium, ice skating, IKEA, shopping, Starbucks… :D and so much more. My friend Erin and I will continue to complain about the ocean getting in the way of our fun until either airfare is cheaper or one of us moves. The plan, if miracles happen, is Vancouver next summer. Or eventually. But hey, we thought this would never happen and it did! For the fangirls: Ellymelly’s writeup of the con is fantastic. She was sitting right near us – that was a total squee moment when we figured out we all sort of knew each other… you girls and your anonymous screen names! Anyway, I couldn’t have said it better and I don’t have much to add, so you can just go read that. :P

Topic? Oh yeah, sewing!

Wristlets Mini pocket size Large Wristlet
I had these cut out but ran out of time before I left. For the pink one I used the pocket as the pattern piece like I did here. The blue one is the large size Essential Wristlet. All fabric is Kate Spain Cuzco that you can find at Fat Quarter Shop. :)

Mini Daytripper!

Mini Daytripper Size comparison Mini Daytripper
I made an 85% Daytripper and it turned out great, but I used Soft and Stable and it’s just too thick for this size and style of bag. I need to make another one with just interfacing and batting. All of the pattern pieces will fit together, except that I think the zipper gusset is a bit too long. Let me make one more and then I’ll post the modifications for it.

Also, check out the Daytripper set on Flickr. I added some more photos from my trip for size reference.

Some of you tweeted me asking about the winner of the giveaway. YES! We had a winner: YC in Seattle! I had to modify the post instead of posting a new one. I had internet at the house (no iPhone data and I survived!) but it was slow. Thankfully I was able to get the Daytripper pattern finished and uploaded from there, so I didn’t push my luck. I’m still waiting on my new sewing machine (finally a decent sized arm!) and then I will make the Boulevard quilt. I loved all of your suggestions and will be referencing them I’m sure!

I will post a year in review and some ideas for 2013. I’d love your input on what to do next, so watch for that! I have so many new ideas from the trip that I truly can’t decide what to make first. I was considering sewing up four or five idea samples and asking you all to help me decide which to create a pattern for first?

I will also be posting a Facebook coupon of some sort to celebrate 1000 “Likes” so make sure you like the Facebook page!

Oh, and I’ve added a review button to the PDF Pattern pages… I’ll post more about that as well!

Fun pictures! Although you could not pay me enough to be the guy waving the fish at the croc. :)

I have video of them trying to get him to jump out of the water. Those guys are nuts. Although they did demonstrate how he can’t move across land very quickly and as long as you stay back from the water you are safe. But yeah, maybe not while waving a fish. :P
