More Gadget Sleeves – and a request for advice

July 10, 2012
By Erin Erickson

I’m officially stuck on this gadget sleeve pattern. Every time I make one, I tweak something, which means even though I started taking photos for the pattern I really want to start over. And then I can’t find a fabric/thread combo that shows up well on camera. And for whatever reason I decided to make a dozen different sizes, all of which have to tested. So this pattern is going to get scaled back and re-started one more time and if that doesn’t work then that’s it, I give up and I’ll move on. I hate to do that because there is nothing construction-wise holding me back. I’ve made a ton of these and they always turn out great. I’m frustrated, but I’ll get there. The photo editing alone is a ton of work and it gets discouraging to start over, that’s all. Since I’m starting over, I might just skip this one and come back to it. I feel like I should work on one of the purses everyone is asking for anyway. It might take longer, but I might be less stressed about it?

I made this one right before we went out of town for the fourth. Total success. Loved using the Soft and Stable. I’ll change a couple of the measurements on the zipper placement but otherwise it’s perfect and I love it.

This was one of the first ones I made a while back. It was a tiny bit too small for my Kindle (sad too, because I only had one FQ of this fabric) so I use it for my embroidery floss. Even though I’m creating sizes for gadgets, they really are just perfect wide-mouth pouches since they open up all the way. Cute, huh?

Gadget Sleeves - lots of uses :)

Encouragement is appreciated. Thank you!

These look great. I think that a pattern for just one size would be wonderful but I also think that you need to be spending time doing what you love not worrying about us getting tutorials for a product that you obviously enjoying sewing and tweaking. If you do write a tutorial that would be marvellous but at the moment I am enjoying seeing all the different versions that you are creating.

Put it down for a while and come back to it later. Once you let the air clear a bit, and focus on something else, then you’ll be ready to tackle it again. :)

As ALWAYS, you are doing a great job, and your efforts are so much appreciated by all your followers. I love the “wide mouth” thing you have going here, and I’m a huge fan of “gadgets” of all kind, so this really interests me.
We are a patient group of watchers, so keep up the good worth and we’ll be here in the sidelines continuing to cheer you on to more glorious accomplishments!! Truly!

All that tweaking and restarting and redoing is what makes for a great pattern! Your efforts are muchly appreciated! So don’t give up… take a break from it if you need to, but don’t give up! :)

I can’t wait to see the final pattern that you’ll be satisfied with. I think it’s great you have so many sizes, so functional and versatile!
I have the red print you used for your kindle in white larger than a FQ if you’d like it. :)

Would it be easier to give one set of generic instructions for sewing the bag, along with instructions for measuring the electronic device you are trying to fit so we can make our own pattern? It’s so hard to keep up with all the electronic gadgets as they come out—over Christmas, I worked at Target. People were buying the Kindle 3 in stacks and there was a whole aisle devoted to Kindle in the store. By Easter, the Kindle stuff was all squeezed into a tiny endcap, and IPad was all the rage. Giving measuring instructions instead of specific instructions would keep your pattern current.
