We had two reasons for heading up to Door County, WI last weekend – 1. to have internet installed in the cabin (I literally did a happy dance!) and 2. Fyr Bal (pronounced FEAR BALL) which has something to do with burning the winter witch and celebrating the summer solstice and hoping for a good harvest. At this point I think it’s a tradition that’s mostly carried on because it’s fun for tourists. :)
Anyway, Fyr Bal is essentially giant bonfires along Ephraim beach that they build out of 1×4′s and douse with gasoline before lighting on fire. Then fireworks!
I think it’s best to let the photos speak for themselves!

And I got these amazing strawberries!

So internet is installed up there, which means we can actually go this summer! We hadn’t been up there in nearly 2 years. The cell networks are spotty and it’s too far to drive for just a short weekend so this way we can stay longer but still get work done during the week! So excited! I even left the dog crate up there to make room for the sewing machine in the car (hopefully!) Shhh. Don’t tell Ken! :)

So fun to see photos of Ephraim. My husband grew up in Ephraim and was one of the little kids in the Fyr Bal celebration long ago. About 8 years ago my father in-law was Fyr Bal king. Can’t wait to head there next week.
