Just a quick post before I run off to make nachos and margaritas! I finally got to work with Chevrons! I have been meaning to make myself a new Notepad organizer. I’ve been using my original prototype – not even the one I used to take the pattern photos, but one I made before that one. I also wanted to make the larger one this time too. So, I opted to cut into the Riley Blake Chevrons I ordered a couple weeks ago. (Cutting into fabric is a HUGE issue for me, I never want to use the “good” stuff.)
I wanted to post this in case you need a quick Mother’s Day gift idea. They sew up super quick, both because they are flat and because there is no hand sewing. The small one can even be made from a single fat quarter. These would also be awesome end of the year teacher gifts! The pattern has two sizes and you can find it right here.
Now, if I’d thought ahead I would have cut into the fabric differently to keep the pattern going all the same way. It’s just for me so I don’t really care, but I’ll think about that harder next time!

Glad I’m not the only on with ‘cutting issues’! I always try and pull fabric I don’t mind cutting into, ‘oh can’t use that it’s too nice’. What is the point of keeping it? Love the chevrons and organiser!
Thanks Mary!
Yep!! I have cutting issues too! I’m interested in knowing do most people buy the fabric before the patterns or vice versa??
I do. I will buy fabric thinking I’ll make a bag or make a skirt and look at guidelines on whatever pattern is handy (i’ll buy 1 yard for a bag, 2 for a skirt, that sort of thing) but I buy fabric I like and figure out what exactly to make with it later. I would only buy fabric specifically for a project if it used a lot of yardage, like curtains, or a fabric I don’t have like the jeans I made. I just bought a line of coordinating fabric for a quilt, though I haven’t decided exactly what quilt to make yet. That sort of thing.
That’s me exactly. If I’m making a dress (which I don’t make very many), I’ll buy what I need. I’m always looking online for sales and giveaways. Sadly, I never win ;(
Oh….love the notepad. Super cute!!! I meant to say that earlier. By the way, do you have a pattern for a nook?
Thanks! I’m working on this gadget case for the Kindles and iPad. I can see how Nook compares size wise. I don’t want to have 17 pattern pieces- I could never account for all the devices out there. What size Nook do you have? http://www.flickr.com/photos/yorkiemischief/6527611941/
