Rotary Circle Cutter

April 24, 2012
By Erin Erickson

Since I can’t seem to leave the local quilt shop without *something*, my latest find was this OLFA Rotary Circle Cutter. I thought it would be fun to try to cut out circles for the earbud pouch! It’s adjustable from 1-1/2″ to 8-3/4″, so I was able to get it exactly the same size as the pattern piece. The only issue I had was that the fabric did bunch up a little bit, so you’ll need to press and possibly starch the fabric – although I didn’t and it was fine.

I fussy cut the butterfly for the back side. If you don’t need to fussy cut, you can cut several layers at a time. (I’ve been told 6-8!) Nice!

I’m dropping this one in the mail for a friend. I think it will brighten her day! :)

That’s exactly what I used to cut out my pouches! I love it! Your butterfly pouch is beautiful!

I just got one of these too! It’s so cool to get perfect (almost) circles. It’s not too hard to get drunkard’s path blocks either. I am still trying to decide if it wad worth the purchase price, or if I am just attracted to the idea.

I’m using a Big Shot to cut my circles and squares. Some of my dies are 4 or 5 inches. Some dies are plain and some have scalloped edges. I think…that the scalloped edges may stop the edges from fraying without using fray-glue?
