Mom and Daughter Two Zip Hipsters

December 20, 2011
By Erin Erickson

I made these for my friend Melanie and her daughter. The little one is at 85%. I made the strap shorter and just 1″ wide. I LOVE this size. If you need a little hands-free purse to hold your wallet, keys and phone when you go out, that size might be a great option.

Melanie picked out and sent me the blue dot fabric. She liked my sample one in pink for her daughter but I knew it would be too big for her. I’m so glad I got to try out the smaller size!

I know I make a big deal about having those YKK “long pull” purse zippers, but these work just fine too. I won’t compromise on the YKK brand, though! More on zippers soon.

I had fabric left over so I did what I do – made more stuff. A nice 4×6 notepad holder to go with it…

It fits great in the front pocket!

What do you think? Would you make a smaller one?

Yes, I like the smaller one and also the one where you increased by 10%. Depends on who I am making it for. Have made several of the original so far and have yet to be able to keep one for myself. Just cut another out tonight for a Christmas gift.

I’m the same way! I’m still using my original test one with fabric that is just OK and not enough interfacing so it’s really floppy. I keep saying I need to make a one for myself soon! :) (Part of my problem is deciding which fabric to use…. I like to hoard the pretty stuff!)

Yes I would. Sometimes you just need your wallet, keys, phone, and lipstick. :-)

I agree! I’m working on a couple solutions for that :)

Hi Maddy! It’s just my Two Zip Hipster Pattern (available here: http://erinerickson.com/store/patterns/two-zip-hipster-pdf-pattern/) and then printed at 85% (which I kind of show you how to do here: http://erinerickson.com/2011/05/enlarging-and-reducing-pdf-patterns/) Does that make sense?
