A Pattern Sale and Lots of Circles!

November 16, 2011
By Erin Erickson

I'm cutting out circles as fast as I can! They will go up on Etsy as they are finished.

Welcome new readers! I’ve had a bunch of new people stop by and comment, find my Facebook page and add items to the Flickr! group this week! Many of you are coming over from Ucreate, Pinterest and Sew, Mama, Sew! I’m so happy you found me! You can find all of my tutorials HERE and my patterns HERE.

Pattern Sale!

Since we are getting into the holiday sewing season, I have dropped the prices on my patterns here in my Pattern Shop. No coupon codes required! (I dropped the prices on Etsy too, but remember with Etsy you have to wait for me to manually enter your order – my Pattern Shop sends your download link automatically!) If you think my tutorials have a lot of photos, my patterns are even more detailed. Please go check them out! I highly recommend the Notepads pattern for gifts! The small size uses just a single fat quarter of fabric and a small piece of Peltex and there is no hand sewing! You can make several in an afternoon!

What’s coming up?

I want to give an update on what I’m expecting to post by the end of the year. I realize there is no way this will all get done, so if you have any opinions about what you would like to see FIRST, please let me know and I’ll direct my energy appropriately!

Tutorials/Patterns (Tutorials vs. Patterns depends on the complexity of the pattern pieces and instructions)
Loki bandana for his birthday (Nov 22 – He’s going to be 7. Unbelievable.)
Zippered leash bags similar to the earbud pouch tutorial, but rectangular/square and no raw edges!
Zippered, quilted dog bed
Doggie doorbells
Crayon Pouch
Kindle/iPad/MacBook Air zippered sleeves *This one already has high priority!*
Small “Not a wristlet” zippered purse like this one
Camera bag of some sort for my Nikon w/ the lens (I’m tired of carrying my HUGE bag when I just need the camera, not extra lenses)
Pattern for this zippered bag, in some form (maybe a bit smaller?)
A mini messenger type walk-the-dog/run-to-the-store bag
A walk-the-dog belt type bag? Maybe? No?
What else are you looking for? Someone mentioned “small gift-type items” in the comments. Like what? Any cold-weather ideas?

For the Blog
More on the Two Zip Hipster
–I’m attempting one at 85% for a little girl
–iPad pocket modifications, 110% of original size (The iPad fits at 100%, but to fit a pocket for it on the side and not let it sink down to the bottom requires the larger size. It only adds an inch overall. My friend Katie just got an iPad so I’m going to make one for her.)
–Ideas for the front pocket – embroidery, applique, flipped fabric
Adding a zip to the fleece dog bed
Quilts – I have the Hoodie Paris fabric for a quilt for my cousin, and Freebird charm square for me and Terrain charm squares for Sam. Hopefully Sam’s can be a tutorial because I have a really cute idea for it!
I really need to make coats/hoodies/t-shirts for the dogs. Not sure if this can be a full tutorial with all the size variations out there, but I can show you how I made them like the harness tutorial.

Ooh, I’m attempting a mod on the 2-zip too, to make a stroller-hanging diaper bag for my trip to Disney. I want to make it a little wider, but keep the strap so that I can hang it from the stroller. I figure that way I can let it hang lower to the ground and then don’t have to worry about it tipping my stroller over like my present diaper bag… And of course, it will be in Mickey Mouse fabric :)

I love your blog and I know why.. you think like me! I can’t wait to see all your goodies in the coming months!
I been wanting to make a small wristlet to hang on my dogs leash handle. I use one of those that extends or you can pull back. I would like a place to carry a couple of wipes and a small packet of honey(she has diabetes and has low sugar drops when she is frightened) I’m not a belt person so trying to figure out how to hang it on the leash handle.
the 5th purse from the bottom you mention on the tutorial/pattern list I LOVE IT! is that a pattern you have now or is out there to purchase? the mini messenger sounds great too!

    Kelly that sounds awesome!

Suzee – I have a great way to hang it on the leash handle – rather than using a clip or a carabiner I just make a longer strap that I put a snap (or velcro) on, so I can snap it and unsnap it from the Flexi :) I’ll definitely include that! For the purse, if you mean the blue cross body one – I don’t have a pattern written for it but I created pattern pieces for it when I made it so I can make it into a pattern, I *just* (ha!) have to take all the photos and write it up. It’s high on the list. I love the bag but I used fusible fleece so it’s dimply and I really want to make a new one! It’s another larger bag, so I might make the smaller one first. We’ll see. I’m really loving figuring out zippers!

What a great blog you have! I love all the tips on interfacing in particular. You are going to be a busy lady, but how about a pattern for a long wallet, the bi-fold or tri-fold kind with slots for credit cards and pockets for money and such. Have a great weekend !

Hi Erin, just purchased your hipster pattern after reading about it on How About Orange. Then I saw your 110% iPad notation up there and the person I want to make this for actually has an iPad, so that’s perfect. Only, I don’t understand your note about it ‘sinking to the bottom’. If the bag is larger, won’t the iPad sink deeper? Can you clarify? Will she be able to put her iPad in the main body of the bag at regular size?

And my vote would be for a camera bag! I’m the proud (and somewhat intimidated) new owner of a Nikon D7000 and don’t have a bag for it. I can’t stand the nylon commercial camera bags and was planning to google search some patterns for myself in the new year.

    Thanks!

Krista – YES the iPad (both of them) fit in the main body of the bag as is. But if you want it to actually be along the side with a pocket, which I think is more practical, and take into account the 1.5″ boxed bottom, it gets tight under the zipper. I promise I will get the post up in time to make them for gifts. I’ve been making earbud pouches which have been a total surprise hit, but I’m done and I’m printing and cutting pieces out for the larger one right now. Promise!
